One hot baby!

Mason was having a hard time staying cool earlier today. He seems to have found a comfortable position on Jeni's lap this evening.

This morning it was too hot to sleep so Mason and I went to Mason's first marathon. (It was so hot, I didn't mind being injured and not running.) Mason and a "labradoodle" tied for the most comments from runners.

Erster Biergarten des Babys

Proud grandparents

Mason made his first trip to a beer garden and brewery today. Unfortunately, he slept through it all. Maybe next time he'll taste some of Capital Brewery's beer.

Baby carrier fun

Mason in the carrier

Mason and Ken tried out the baby carrier. It is a very strappy thing, but once he was in there Mason seemed pretty happy. In fact, he even smiled! Jeni says this is a look of terror.

Is that a smile?

They then went outside. Being that it was a sunny day, Mason had to put on his new shades from Grandma Hollie.

Nice sunglasses!!!

What a cool kid!

Mason on the bus

Mason's first bus ride

Yesterday, Jeni, Hollie and Mason took the bus downtown. I guess they had a good time walking around the square and State Street. Mason even got a little gift from Grandma Hollie, which you'll see in the next post.

Sleeping Beauty Giant

Mason is saving up his strength for some big time eating. You see, he needs to eat in order to be able to sleep so that he has enough strength to eat again.

Sun's out- guns out

This is Jeni and it's my first post. Here's an example of the raging testosterone I am living with. Next thing you know they'll be wrestling and reading Low Rider Magazine.

An experiment in sight and sound

We'll see if this works. I think that you need Flash on your computer.

Mason's first trip downtown

It was a beautiful day in Madison, so we went down to the library and then walked around the Capitol Square. We are still getting used to this whole thing, so missed the farmer's market by about two hours, but at least we made it down. Mason's hat is awful cute, but still rather big on him. You can actually see his face in this next picture.

Miracle Blanket, or not...

Mason had the best sleep of his young life the other night when I had him in his sling with his arms strapped down. After getting him to sleep in it, I just put the whole package into the bassinette. It was great for everyone. We're talking 3 1/2 hours of uninterrupted sleep. The next night we tried the same thing, and had similar (though not as spectacular results).

Finally last night we received our Miracle Blanket. I swaddled him around 9:30p.m. but had to put him into the sling to get him to sleep. When he fell asleep, I took him out of the sling and put him into the bassinette. He woke up to eat shortly after and afterwards Jeni re-swaddled him. It didn't work though and he didn't fall asleep so Jeni put him back into the sling.

Somehow in there, he wriggled out of his diaper and wet his clothes, the Miracle Blanket, the sling, and his bassinette liner.

So yeah, some Miracle...

Mason is trying to read your mind!!!

It may look like Mason is sleeping here, but in reality I think he is trying to read my mind.

OK, maybe he's sleeping.

Cousins meet for the first time

Amy, CJ, Joey, and Sandy came up this week. CJ was very interested in meeting "Baby Mason" and had a big smile on his face as you can see. Joey was more interested in Hogarth, I think.

Happy Mother's Day

The picture turned out a little fuzzy, unfortunately. Tom and Hollie came up on Sunday to help us celebrate Jeni's first Mother's Day. Mason is sleeping in this picture, something he doesn't like to do at night.

The story in pictures

Before. Jeni is tired of being pregnant. (Hogarth always looks like that.)

May 10th, 1:30am, time to go to the hospital.

Finally, at 9:59pm, Mason enters the world. He apparently weighed in at 3354 lbs. That must be a record.

The three of us pose for our first picture together.

Time to go home. Mason took his first trip in stride.

May 12, back home and feeling fine.

Mason Lee

Mason Lee was born May 10, 2006 at 9:59pm. He weighed 7 lb, 6oz and was 20 1/2 in long.

Three days late

The due date of May 5 has come and gone. Jeni is hanging in there. She walked 5-6 miles yesterday and we ate plenty of ethnic food over the weekend, but to no avail.

Any other suggestions?
